VisComm Poll

Edit: Here's my crappily vectored logo in a all blue hues.

Alright polling time for my viscomm assignment – and yes, this is due tomorrow. It’s not that I’ve started it late so much that I’m horrible and horribly slow at this stuff. Anyway, posting this here instead of my personal journal because the only people who comment here are from Australia.

My project is to overhaul/redesign the visual language with which the company ExportAir is using to communicate to its potential customers, including a redesign of the logo/logotype/brandmark.

Please visit the website http://www.exportair.com.au/

Looking at the logo and the symbol from the logo which is applied repeatedly across the page –

1)      What impression does the logo mark/logo type alone give you of the company?

2)      Does it seem like an up to date company?

3)      Does it seem like a reliable company?

4)      Does the impression that you get from the logo fill you with confidence to choose this company to ship your possessions and excess baggage internationally, if you had finished studying in Australia and were looking to relocate back to your home country?

5)      Does the logo fill you with confidence that this business has been operating and has more than 24 years experience?

6)      Does the logo give you the impression that if your possessions were somehow waylaid during your stressful intercontinental relocation home, that this company would do a good job in tracking them down quickly and fixing any problems?

7)      The purple text on the link dot points on the left hand column of the webpage, how do they make you feel?

8)      How does it make you feel that the angles of the logo are different from the logo in the top left hand of the page compared with the logo as seen above the map, and that the symbol is now on a different side of the type? Does that seem shifty and inconsistent to you? What feelings does that sort of mad hatter approach inspire within you as a hypothetical potential customer?

9)      What colours seem all of the following to you – trustworthy, tenacious, and unfailing to you? Do you believe the colours currently used in the logo or in conjunction with it (for this discussion we’re talking about, the black, grey, red, white and the blue at the top bar)  express that to you?

Okay, that’s all thanks, any replies I get to this poll will be much appreciated!

I think it might be a good idea to post this in your main journal since this place has a whopping readership of two people :P

1) What impression does the logo mark/logo type alone give you of the company?
Budgeeeeeeeetttt

2) Does it seem like an up to date company?
When I see logos like this I don't really think "stuck in the 80s" or anything like that, I just think the company is super cheap and dodgy.

3) Does it seem like a reliable company?
On the one hand, I've used dodgier places and not been ripped off. On the other hand, no.

4) Does the impression that you get from the logo fill you with confidence to choose this company to ship your possessions and excess baggage internationally, if you had finished studying in Australia and were looking to relocate back to your home country?
No, but it *does* look affordable.

5) Does the logo fill you with confidence that this business has been operating and has more than 24 years experience?
With a logo like that? I'd believe it ;)

6) Does the logo give you the impression that if your possessions were somehow waylaid during your stressful intercontinental relocation home, that this company would do a good job in tracking them down quickly and fixing any problems?
Maybe. No strong feelings either way.

7) The purple text on the link dot points on the left hand column of the webpage, how do they make you feel?
These questions are totally loaded, there's nothing wrong with the link bar :P Though the purple colour is a little confusing.

Loooool. Looks cheap but not immediately suspicious.

9) What colours seem all of the following to you – trustworthy, tenacious, and unfailing to you? Do you believe the colours currently used in the logo or in conjunction with it (for this discussion we’re talking about, the black, grey, red, white and the blue at the top bar) express that to you?
You should probably post a few samples, it'd be easier to answer this question. Though the current colours aren't particularly bad if you make the logo less bargain-bin.

What room are you in for the presentations? Mine's 12:45 in 201:504C. Seeing how they run from 10am to 3pm I figured your class might be in there too.

Yeah, I've linked back to this in a new entry on my journal - it just took me a bit to compile that entry aroudn doing other things.

I just threw question 7 in there because it seems funny to me that they've done their links in purple - and yes, my questions ARE totally loaded.

Also, I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO GO FOR THIS. I don't think we'll be in the same place though (although that would be cool) because our tutor was schedualing us for what order we're going in.

Wtf woman you'd better find out. Last minute emails to tutors anyone?

Though our tutor did mention there'd be several markers present, so you might be with us after all.

Oh, I prefer not to email my tutor for such petty things as what room the presentation is in... I'll just go with the flow of students when I get there tomorrow morning and maybe I'll wind up in the right place. In other news, my 30 day trial of illustrator ran out so I wound up downloading a free vectoring program called inkscape which winds up beign the third vector program I've now learned for this course and the second I've learned to use in as many months. It's actually much less complex than illustrator but I have to export the vectored bits into photoshop to get the right colours. I don't think it has a cmyk colour mixer...

It would be cool if we were together, because then we could send messages and doodles via DS. Yipee.

1) What impression does the logo mark/logo type alone give you of the company?
cheap and nasty

2) Does it seem like an up to date company?
No, looks like it's from the 70's/80's

3) Does it seem like a reliable company?
Not really since it's budget, use at your own risk!

4) Does the impression that you get from the logo fill you with confidence to choose this company to ship your possessions and excess baggage internationally, if you had finished studying in Australia and were looking to relocate back to your home country?
No, I would be worried my stuff would be shipped to Outer Mongolia by accident

5) Does the logo fill you with confidence that this business has been operating and has more than 24 years experience?
Not confidence, but it does look old

6) Does the logo give you the impression that if your possessions were somehow waylaid during your stressful intercontinental relocation home, that this company would do a good job in tracking them down quickly and fixing any problems?
I think the company would try to track it down but not quickly. It gives me the feeling that it would be one of those pain in the ass companies that you always have to call to get an update and when you do you keep getting transferred to different people and eventually you get back to the first person you talked to and they know nothing.

7) The purple text on the link dot points on the left hand column of the webpage, how do they make you feel?
They aren't very noticeable, but it looks like the company is trying to be 'hip' and failing miserably

At first I didn't notice it, but now that you mention it, it is a little disconcerting. Mostly because I like symmetry. It's like the company is trying to be all different things at once and not getting a clear brand personality across. It feels unbalanced and makes you wary.

9) What colours seem all of the following to you – trustworthy, tenacious, and unfailing to you? Do you believe the colours currently used in the logo or in conjunction with it (for this discussion we’re talking about, the black, grey, red, white and the blue at the top bar) express that to you?
The blue is nice, it feels trustworthy and unfailing but then the harshness of using huge amounts of red just spoils it. The red is too much and overpowers the blue, it's too in your face and distracts you from what the company wants you to think about them. Since the company is called ExportAir, it would make more sense to use blues to represent the air. Blue is more calming and friendly while red, although may represent urgency and steadfastness, it can be angry and loud and offputting.

Good luck on your presentation thingy!!!! Oh and how come it's due tomorrow? Aren't we still on holiday???

Thanks for responding to this Niina! I'll totally be trying out my logo in more shades of blue now too.
:D

AND YES IT'S STILL THE TUITION FREE FORTNIGHT BUT THE CRAPPY JAQUES SHAW DECIDED WE ALL NEEDED TO HAVE 5 HOURS OF COMPULSORY SITTING THROUGH EACH-OTHERS PRESENTATIONS DURING A DAY OF THE TUITION FREE WEEK, HOW CRAP IS THIS?

Oh, also I'll be editing this entry to include one of the blue version logos if you want to see it and tell me what you think.

D: WTF Jacque Shaw is evil

Apr. 16th, 2009 04:20 pm (UTC)
I KNOW.

And like, we have these exercise activities to do, and for the first week's one mine was a day late because I decided I had better get to sleep because my eyes were so red it looked like I was going to bleed out of them at any moment, and I was like, oh, it's worth a 10% loss to just go to sleep instead of persevering to it done.

But then like, last week my tutor told me that Jacque has retroactively decided that people who weren't there to present it in class DON'T GET ANY MARKS FOR IT. And my tutor was all "She said it was in the unit outline/exercise book..." and we all looked, and it wasn't, but our tutor has decided that even though she knows there is not one way Jacque can do it, she's not giving us marks for them unless WE complain to Jacque. What the hell cowardly tutor?

And I mean, sure this thing is worth a 1/3rd of 10% but damn it I'm crap at this stuff and I need all the marks I can get and like hell I'm going to make all that fucking work I did on that crappy exercise mean nothing.

Oh my god, I didn't realise how evil she is! I thought Paul Lowndes was evil but Jacque is such a mastermind at being evil

I like the eagle but I'm not sure whether you should simplify it further or not, I think it would depend on the text you put with it...I suppose you could try, just to fatten your development file :D

Apr. 16th, 2009 04:24 pm (UTC)
Oh yes my development folder needs fattening. I might simplify the wing details.
I have to print it full size for my tutor on friday once we're back anyway for feedback and tweaking - the feet look majorly uncool at the moment.

Also, I heard Sarah wasn't going to be there on Monday, can you confirm this?

1)What impression does the logo mark/logo type alone give you of the company?
Boring D:

2)Does it seem like an up to date company?
Nup.

3)Does it seem like a reliable company?
I suppose it could be, maybe they spend all their money being reliable instead of hiring expensive designers to pimp their crap.

4)Does the impression that you get from the logo fill you with confidence to choose this company to ship your possessions and excess baggage internationally, if you had finished studying in Australia and were looking to relocate back to your home country?
I don't really get swayed by fancy design, if a friend/family recommended it then probably

5)Does the logo fill you with confidence that this business has been operating and has more than 24 years experience?
Hahaha actually maybe yes. The site looks ancient.

6)Does the logo give you the impression that if your possessions were somehow waylaid during your stressful intercontinental relocation home, that this company would do a good job in tracking them down quickly and fixing any problems?
Once again, I try not to judge on a mere logo D:

7)The purple text on the link dot points on the left hand column of the webpage, how do they make you feel?
It's all right I guess. Purple is one of my favourite colors tho.

8)How does it make you feel that the angles of the logo are different from the logo in the top left hand of the page compared with the logo as seen above the map, and that the symbol is now on a different side of the type? Does that seem shifty and inconsistent to you? What feelings does that sort of mad hatter approach inspire within you as a hypothetical potential customer?
Doesn't bother me.

9)What colours seem all of the following to you – trustworthy, tenacious, and unfailing to you? Do you believe the colours currently used in the logo or in conjunction with it (for this discussion we’re talking about, the black, grey, red, white and the blue at the top bar) express that to you?
Blue is a great color to use, but everything about the logo clashes with it. I think blue is a great color for 'trust' The red jumps out wat too much and annoys me.

I'm always like 10 days late for these things. OTL;;
